Pat Benatar Concert ~ House of Blues, Boston

Concert: July 9, 2011

This is a few weeks late, I realize, as I am about to embark on a meet & greet with another performer, Rihanna, Jul 24, 2011 at the Boston Garden. Enjoy this and if given the chance when Pat Benatar returns or comes to your town, GO see her.

Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo are ageless wonders. The only thing that gives their age away is that the duo may have a few more wrinkles than they did in the 80s, and Giraldo's hair is completely silver gray. But, he still has a lot of it.

If you closed your eyes you would think you were back-in-time with these rockers; and they won't let time and change-in-music take rock away from them. Nor do we want rock to go away when we listened to their songs that carried us into adulthood. Benatar, now 58, has been partnered on stage with Giraldo for 33 years and married to him this year for 30.

I've seen Pat Benatar in all sorts of settings and I would say this was the most intimate, having selected Boston's House of Blues. I've attended her concerts when they first started touring in the early 80s when they filled the likes of the old Boston Garden, 14K seats. Now we're looking at a couple of thousand at the small venue, House of Blues.

Benatar has definitely grown more comfortable with her audiences, from when she would yelp out “Thank you!” after each song, while the lights closed to blackness. Now in her latter days, you can’t shut her up. She talks to the crowd, showing her appreciation to fans that has waned over the years. During one of her talks with the small crowd, Benatar invites feedback on her Facebook fan page on fine tuning her concert set list. She lets her fans know her set list will change as she tours based on that feedback, so “come back as it will be different next time,” she gushes.

Before one song, Benatar & Giraldo ask us to take out our cell phones to hold up and put them in a lit/active state while waving it in the air (to add affect to the song); the duo also invites us to take pictures. What stars would do that today? They even encouraged us to come to New York to catch their next concert the following day.

I can’t remember the last time I paid a small concert price ~ So worth it! I recommend seeing Pat Benatar any time she swings through town. Go. Enjoy. Leave Happy. I did!
