NOH8 Boston & Worldwide

Back in early Spring of this year I visited the W Hotel in Boston in support of the NOH8 Campaign and celebrity photographer Adam Bouska, one of the campaign’s founders.

What is NOH8 you ask? “The NOH8 Campaign is a photographic silent protest created by celebrity photographer Adam Bouska and partner Jeff Parshley in direct response to the passage of [California] Proposition 8. Photos feature subjects with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced by Prop 8 and similar legislation around the world, with "NOH8" painted on one cheek in protest.”

Over 500 people came out in support of the Boston photo shoot ranking it among one of the top cities Adam has visited since the organization’s inception back in 2008.

Here is my NOH8 Boston pic:

A Relay of Love

What do 220 miles and my niece Genevieve have in common? They are tied to each other by the New England Relay 2011. The NE Relay is just 2 weeks away, June 11-12. It’s a race that Genevieve and 11 of her friends have committed to run as “Team Vansome.

Team Vansome is running to raise money for The Partnership at Drugfree.org  in memory of my nephew, and Genevieve’s brother, Vance. The Partnership is a drug abuse prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery resource, existing to help parents and caregivers effectively address alcohol and drug abuse with their teens and young adults.

Please join me in supporting Team Vansome and their quest through New England and help raise awareness about drug and alcohol addiction.

Go TEAM VANSOME!!

Hard Hitting Politcal Ads Target: Scott Brown

The League of Women Voters are taking aim at Senators who voted to block new air pollution standards. The target here in Massachusetts is Senator Scott Brown (R).

Will these two television ads featured in the People, Not Polluters web site have a detrimental affect on Scott Brown's re-election bid?

You decide. Visit the People Not Polluters web site for more information.

Life Interrupted: Addiction Makes Another Appearance

While pumping gas tonight after the gym, I was approached by a young man asking for change so he could catch a bus and get home. I cannot tell you how many times this has happened to me.

I always knew these people are not "catching a ride." What they're doing is feeding their addiction for drugs and alcohol. Tonight it hit me harder because drugs and alcohol have had a detrimental affect on my family. More so now after having just lost my nephew Vance to drugs.

One thing my family and I have realized over the past 3 months during our grieving; More people dealing with these issues about a family member, loved one or friend, need to talk about it and be more vocal. There is nothing to hide. These victims of drugs and alcohol need help and not being vocal isn't doing any justice for them or yourself. There is no reason to be ashamed. It will help save a life.

There is help out there. Prevent. Intervene. Get Treatment. Recover. The Partnership at DrugFree.org is here for all of us. www.drugfree.org

Desserts for a Cause: Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer 2011

This week Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer embarks on it's 12th year in raising money for breast cancer research. The benefactor is world-renowned Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Boston Bakes is hoping to raise over $200,000 through its partnerships & donations of Boston area restaurants, hotels and bakeries.

Starting May 2 through Mother's Day, May 8, 2011, enjoy the sweetest desserts in the area with proceeds being donated to find a cure for breast cancer. There is a long list of restaurants and bakeries participating this year, or you can donate directly to this to this great cause.

I for one, love desserts and whole-heartedly support Boston Bakes. It's a great reason to get out and enjoy the sweet delights Boston has to offer; even pick up some desserts for Mom on Mother's Day; Enjoy! Bon Appetit!

You can find Boston Bakes on Facebook and Twitter.
